Well, here Ben and I are, at home on this rather pleasant September day and thinking about going kayaking on Rockland Broad. Meanwhile Guy is on a 72ft Challenger yacht, last seen in Dieppe (pictured here just before he set off from Ipswich last Tuesday).
Sam phoned me this morning from the reception pontoon in Lagos on the Algarve - where Kalessin overwintered in 2006/7. Here's our departure from the same pontoon heading for Gibraltar and the Med:
Sam is on the beautiful Hylas 49 Moonstruck, belonging to Alan and Joan Teed, heading for Madeira and then the Canaries, then home for a few weeks and then from Gran Canaria to St Lucia with the ARC.
Why does Rockland Broad seem so staid by comparison?
Kalessin of Orwell is a 33ft Westerly Storm. In 2006-8 we sailed her down to Portugal, into the Med, and home through the French canals. In 2011 we explored Baltic Germany and Denmark. After Sam's stroke we cruised gently on the East Coast, the Netherlands and Brittany, and in 2021 sailed to Cornwall and back. In 2024, following Sam's death, Camilla plans a memorial round-Britain cruise
