Wherever we went from Ardrishaig we were likely to be there for a few nights. Tuesday looked ok but Wednesday was due to be very wet with wind later and Thursday very windy with, guess what, more rain.

So Tarbert looked like a good option, very well sheltered from the west with all the facilities of a big marina. It was just 10 miles down Loch Fyne from the Ardrishaig sea lock, and we managed to sail almost all the way with just the foresail.  There were plenty of visitors’ spaces although by Tuesday evening it was looking a bit fuller. We could have left on Wednesday morning but it was not only pouring with rain but also the coldest morning since I left Whitehills. In the afternoon the rain eased off and the wind got up. I went for a walk, and so did Alex and David, and amazingly we met in the hills behind Tarbert doing the same loop in opposite directions.

Sigma 33 Brave

Another astonishing coincidence. Opposite us in Tarbert was a Sigma 33 called Brave. Could it possibly be the same boat owned by our friends Richard and Cathy Brown when we first sailed with them? I checked and yes indeed it was the same boat, looking pretty smart. They sold her almost 20 years ago.

Thursday proved extremely wet, although I did manage a short trot to a pretty beach with only one downpour. In the evening we had a memorable meal at a little restaurant called Lulabelles. Like the Galley of Lorne they were short-staffed but they were so open and cheery about it that we forgave the slow service. The fish platter and the seafood platter didn’t quite go together but the individual components were almost all delicious and Alex and I polished off a bottle of Prosecco, which cheered us up no end.
