Westerly Fulmar Penny Lane moored in Loch Oich

Narrow canal after Laggan swing bridge

Late evening sunshine above the Laggan moorings

This was a short voyage, trying to avoid the worst of the rain. It was incredibly heavy overnight on Saturday, and by the time we took the cockpit tent down, although the rain had almost stopped, the tent itself was saturated. Unfortunately, I discovered later that although we had protected the forward berth where the tent is stored, it was so wet that water had run off into my bunk. Only the foot area was really wet, so it was manageable.

By the time the crew had been to the small Spar supermarket and returned, it was midday when we set off. It was a short run to Kytra lock, which opened for us, and another short run to Cullochy lock, where the lock keeper was having his lunch, so we had lunch too. Then out into Loch Oich, much narrower and shallow than Loch Ness, but just as pretty in its own way, before mowing up above the lagan locks. Another CA member, Peter Henri, was only a couple of boats away so I popped in for a chat. After that, Alex cooked dinner and we enjoyed an extremely peaceful evening on board.

Distance run: 14 miles
